Object type: BURIN
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Bedford
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Mesolithic flint burin, made from a secondary flake.
The piece is subcrescentic, has several ridges on its dorsal surface and diffuse rippling on the ventral. The burin's point has probably been created by blunting of the area adjacent to the bulb. In addition, there is an area of invasive retouch at the distal end. Other serrated and notched edges appear to be the result of natural damage. The flint is lightly patinated and retains a small portion of the cortex.
Length: 34.6mm; width: 13.5mm; thickness: 5.3mm. Weight: 2.11g.
