Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
A borer or piercer fabricated on a pebble of dark brown flint. The flint pebble has been subject to a single strike to thin one end of it. There is no bulb of percussion evident but percussion ripples can be seen on the exposed face. The rest of the flint pebble is covered in a thick, off- white cortex The pebble has been finely and steeply pressure-flaked at the thinned end on two sides to produce a narrow point suitable for boring or piercing. The tip of the point has been broken off and lost. This object is probably of Mesolithic date.

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Colchester-derivative (double-pierced lug) brooch, dating from the mid to late 1st century AD.
The wings are of C-shaped section and have plain upper surfaces. A short length of the axis bar and external chord survive, contained within perforated lugs at the centre of the head's underside. Part of the flat-sectioned pin remains, as does a coil of the spring, attached to the axis bar, which occupies the perforation in the lower lug. A V-shaped notch separates these lugs from a flat-topped ridge which extends down the bow, as far as the break, and is …

A Roman copper-alloy Colchester-derivative (double-perced lug) brooch, dating from the mid to late 1st century AD.
The wings are of C-shaped section, with a portion missing from the right-hand end. Vertical grooves and ridged mouldings decorate the outer surface of the wings. Three coils of a spring, probably made of iron, remain in situ, held in place by a central axis bar, which is contained within a perforated lug at the centre of the head's underside; a second such lug, immediately above the first, retains a length of the copper-alloy external chord. A V-shaped notch separates …
