Body sherd (measuring c.90 x c.70mm) of hand-built pottery in quite fresh condition, reduced with ill-sorted sparse white (chalk) inclusions, the largest 6mm across. There are a few rounded voids on the inner surface, the largest 5mm across. Both surface are smoothed. Slightly less than half of the break is quite recent. Thickness 9 - 13.5mm. Weight 111g. Early Saxon or possibly Middle Saxon. c.430 - c.725.

Early Medieval (11th century) unidentified object: In plan the object is rectangular with broken edges, which are not recent breaks. The majority of the object is semi-hexagonal on the outer surface and concave on the underside. The outer surface is decorated with two transverse grooves at one terminal with traces of grooves transverse to these grooves. The other terminal is rounded and has, protruding from the lower edge a flat flange. Body sherd of Middle Saxon Ipswich ware pottery, fine sandy, weight 13g, c.720 - c.850. The first pottery fragment of this date to have been recorded in this parish. Hingham has been convincingly identified as a Middle Saxon estate centre (Williamson 1993, 96-9 and 133).
