Part of a terminal from a late Early Medieval to Medieval cast copper alloy horse harness strap connector. The terminal was lozenge shaped in plan with slightly convex outer edges and a sub-circular hole in the centre. Only three corners and the connecting two sides now remain. The remainder, including the corner which connected on to connector bar, is now lost to worn and patinated breaks. There are rounded knops projecting from the outside of the three remaining corners. Incomplete copper alloy sheet buckle plate. The plate is roughly rectangular with a rectangular tab extending from one edge which would have looped over the buckle frame, the curve of the loop and back plate are missing. The same edge is broken further up where a second tab would have extended, the break is patinated. A double row of indented dots runs parallel to each edge. Medieval cast copper alloy single loop oval buckle frame with an ornate outer edge and pin. The outer edge widens into a sub-rectangular bar which is thinned and narrowed in the centre giving a V-shaped cross section and a slightly V-shaped outer edge. There is a raised transverse collar across the centre of this bar at this narrowest point. The strap bar is narrowed and offset and recessed from the front of the frame with slightly thickened knops at each end. Medieval copper alloy hooked strap fitting. The upper part of the fitting is in the form of a bar the base of which curves forward then back to form a large open loop (hook). The upper bar is triangular in section with a flat back and ridge running down the centre. The bar widens and thickens from 4.3mm wide by 2.9mm thick at the top to 6.2mm by 5.0mm thick at the junction with the hook. Medieval cast copper-alloy bar mount in the form of a central circular element flanked by two small sub-rectangular outer ends. The centre element is domed with a concave back and convex front, the end elements are rounded at the front with flat backs.The ends each have a pierced hole though the centre which holds a separate copper-alloy rivet. Post Medieval cast copper alloy double-looped buckle, complete with pin. The loops are oval with the outer sides of both loops wideneing slightly at the centre. There is an incised line forming a pin rest across the central point on both loops. The loop have angled backs and angled, rounded outer edges. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed with lobed knops at either end. The back is plaint. Roman copper-alloy radiate of Carausius dating to the period AD 286 to 293 (Reece Period 14). PAX AVG reverse type depicting Pax standing left holding a branch up in her right hand and transverse sceptre in left. Mint unclear - there might be a mintmark in the exergue which is off the flan. The reverse die has been badly aligned and the design is partially off the flan. Probably Unattributed Mint, but probably a later issue as broad flan (23.5mm), so possibly C Mint. RIC V, pt 2, p. 536, cf. 895. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.
