Copper alloy fragment of wide equal armed brooch comprising the pointed end of one triangular arm with a broken loop for a pin (lost) behind it, and a slightly curved central bow retaining faint traces of longitudinal ribs and a lug, possibly with ring and dot, behind which projects a folded catch plate - the lug is all that remains of the other wing. Cast rectangular concavo-convex object with a flange around its edge, and another round the inner edge of its underside, probably to engage the top of a small container. The former would facilitate opening, and the latter woukld assure a tightly sealed closure. An oval hole lies near one corner, though whether a casting flaw, a deliberate feature or fortuitous damage is uncertain. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1800. Copper alloy Brooch fragment. Cast foot of a Small Long Brooch, as kindly identified by the finder citing Hattatt, R. (1985, Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxbow, Oxford, no. 668). A spatulate foot is separated from the lower bow by a pair of collar mouldings. A catch plate behind these retains a clod of rust representing an iron pin which was attached when the brooch was deposited.
