Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Fragment of a Early Medieval copper alloy strap end being the animal head terminal. Two bulbous eyes are emphasised by deep- set notches either side of them. The animal's up-turned nose is separated from the eyes by a low moulding. The back is plain. Condition good but varnished. Length 14.4mm, Width 7.8mm, Thickness 3.8mm, Mass 1.95g. Some thought has been given as to whether or not this fragment represents part of an early cruciform brooch (like FAKL-F2B846) or if it was part of a strap end (like FAKL-852435). On balance the latter interpretaion seems most likley.
