An incomplete stone mortar or type of saddle quern of Unknown date.
The object is sub-triangular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section.
It is composed of fossiliferous Bembridge Limestone (not Quarr Stone) and the steeply carved oval recess is smooth through use. The sides are generally irregular. One side is partially flat and has been carved as such. The bottom is slightly convex and has a number of scuff marks, probably related to modern agricultural activity. A reddened area on the side may indicate burning or heating.
