Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a copper alloy medieval (AD c.1300-c.1400) composite strap end, consisting of the moulded terminal knop and a short length of the back and front plates and spacer. Overall, the fragment measures 21.5mm long, 11.0mm wide and 3.7mm thick. It weighs 3.24g. The strap end appears to be a composite strap end with a sheet spacer occupying the whole width, as seen in Egan and Pritchard (2002, p.146-148, e.g. no.703). The spacer is sandwiched between the front and back plates (overall 3.0mm thick). The front of the terminal was made separately and this was riveted to the plates a…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy mount dating to the Medieval period. It is lozengiform in shape and completely flat. There is a thin border around the edge and although very worn, there appears to be some decorative detail focussing around a central circular perforation measuring 3mm in diameter. The moulded decoration comprises of a wide cross which splits the surface of the mount into quarters and in each quarter coming outwards from the centre there is a slightly shorter diagonal line . It is also likely that the surface of the mount was once gilded as there are traces of it around the border …
