A fragment of a copper-alloy harness fitting or stud mount, probably dating to the second or third centuries AD. The mount comprises an incomplete flat lozengiform plate with scalloped edges. Incised lines decorate the plate and emphasise the scallop detailing and it is possible that the mount was intended to represent a stylised leaf or feather. At the apex of the plate is a small, circular piercing measuring 2mm in diameter. It is filled with iron corrosion products. On the underside of the plate, there extends a single circular-section lug terminating in a flat, circular end-plate.…

On the underside of the mount, positioned in the area of the rectangular collar, is a circular-section lug with a flat, circular end-plate. A copper-alloy belt mount or harness fitting dating to the third century AD. The mount comprises a flat, approximately oval plate decorated with scrolling openwork motifs. The wider end of the plate is broken. However, the apex of the mount terminates in a small, rectangular extension which is decorated with a deep vertical groove. The underside of the plate is flat and plain. It has not been filed down or 'finished' and has a rough appearance. Two semi-circular section lugs extend from the underside of the plate, one positioned at the wide end of the plate, the other at the apex. The…
