Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hertfordshire

A tertiary flint blade of probable Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c. 2700 BC - c. 1600 BC). The blade appears to be missing its distal end. Part of the core platform survives at the proximal end, with a pronounced bulb of percussion and conchoidal fracture, indicative of hard hammer percussion. The piece has a triangular section and a slightly 'bowed' appearance, with serrated edges, which may be coarse retouch or, alternatively, the result of wear. The flint is unpatinated, translucent grey. Length: 28mm; width: 13.9mm; thickness: 5.8mm. Weight: 2.38g.

Lead Weight. Cast discoid plano-convex weight, very lightly patinated overall. The mass may suggest this to represent ten (slightly underweight) Scandinavian units (of 4.07gms) for bullion transactions, though the relatively fresh condition must introduce some doubt unless recent disturbance from a sealed context can be demonstrated. Probably cast in an open mould. Suggested date: possibly Early Medieval, 850-950. Diameter: 31.6mm, Thickness: 6.3mm, Weight: 39.36gms.
