A copper-alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.b4, flat wing ends type, Western Group), dated AD 70-120. The brooch is of cast construction with pierced end plates on the wings to secure the axis bar of the spring, and a rearward facing hook (missing) to retain the cord. The bow has a short medium ridge with a single oblique rib on either side. The wings have a single ribbed moulding. The spring with integral pin, foot and catchplate are missing. The brooch has a olive green patina. Length of brooch: 22.29 mm. Width at wings: 24.40 mm
