An incomplete strap fitting of Post-Medieval date. It is missing one terminal due to old breaks, now worn. The main body is convex and oval in shape with a central circular rivet hole towards the base. At the top there is a transverse ridge connecting to a circular attachment end, with a central circular rivet hole and a projecting circular knop. A complete copper-alloy sword belt decorative plate of Post-Medieval date. It is a flattened D-shape in section with a flat back face. There is a central triangular plate with a trilobite terminal at one end and two smaller projecting lobes at the other from which extend an integrally cast hook. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain.
