A complete but corroded iron chisel of Roman to Post-Medieval date.
It is T-shaped with a flat rectangular head. The stem is rectangular and tapers in thickness towards the base.
This chisel measures 81.94mm in length, 19.54mm in width at the head, 16.69mm in width at the stem, 11.03mm in thickness at the top of the stem, 3.18mm in thickness at the base of the stem, 46.20g in weight.
There are similar examples recorded by Manning (Manning, 1985, p. 9, no. A22). However, this chisel could be of Roman date onwards.
