Record ID: YORYM-90723A
Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in profile and plano in section. The dorsal surface retains a large amount of cortex along the mesial portion and has short, parallel flaking and semi-abrupt retouch along the distal edge. The proximal edge has been abruptly blunted. The ventral surface is smooth with shallow ripples of percussion emanating from the proximal end. The lithic retains a large amount of cortex and is therefore a primary flake.
The flint is dark grey, the cortex is a mid-cream in colour.

Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in profile and bi-concave in section. The dorsal surface retains a minor amount of cortex along the proximal edge and has partial, parallel flaking. All edges contain fine semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface retains cortex along its distal end and has two predominant negative scars. The lithic retains some cortex and is therefore a secondary flake.
The flint is dark grey in colour, the cortex is a light blueish grey in colour.

Object type: DENTICULATE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint denticulate of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-ovate in profile and concavo-convex in section. An extremely minor amount of cortex is retained at the proximal end. The dorsal surface contains three predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises. The left hand edge contains rough, abrupt retouch creating a denticulated edge. The right hand edge contains semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is smooth with shallow ripples of percussion emanating from the distal end. The lithic retains a minor amount of cortex and is therefore a secondary flake…

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint abruptly blunted blade of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-rectangular in profile and concavo-convex in section. The dorsal surface contains four predominant negative scars with corresponding negative scars. Both the proximal and distal ends have been abruptly blunted and the left and right hand edges contain rough semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is predominantly smooth with minor negative scars resulting from the retouch and a small bulb of percussion situated at the distal end. The lithic retains no cortex is therefore a tertiary flake.

Workflow stage: Published
A complete flint blade/knife of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-rectangular in profile and concave-convex in section. The dorsal surface contains four predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises. The proximal end had been abruptly blunted, all other edges contain rough, semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface contains distinct ripples of percussion emanating from the distal end. The lithic retains no cortex and it therefore a tertiary flake.
The flint is mid grey in colour with cream and dark grey in colour.

A complete flint scraper of Neolithic date (4000-2350 BC). The lithic is sub-rectangular in profile and concavo-convex in section. The dorsal surface contains four predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises. The distal end of the lithic is composed of retained cortex. The proximal end has been abruptly blunted, all other edges contain regular, fine, semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral surface is smooth with minor negative scars resulting from the retouch to the left hand edge. The lithic retains some cortex and is therefore a secondary flake.

The dorsal surface contains three predominant negative scars with corresponding arrises. Both the proximal and distal ends have been abruptly blunted. The left and right hand edges contain rough semi-abrupt to low angle retouch.
