An incomplete copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman Colchester brooch. The head has signs of transverse grooving on the outer face. To the rear are two loops, one still containing part of the chord. The rest of the spring and pin are missing. The bow tapers to a point and the remains of a triangular catchplate survive to the reverse. Several similar examples are illustrated by Bayley and Butcher (2004, p.63, 54ff), who suggest that this type was first manufactured prior to the Roman conquest of Britain, but continued in use into the middle years of the 1st century AD (ibid., 14…

Copper-alloy Roman spoon. Most of the bowl is missing but what remains is attached to the handle by a crescent shaped lug. This lug is decorated with vertical ridges where it is attached to the handle. The top of this lug is either broken or has a scalloped edge. The handle has a flat rectangular section where it joins the lug with possible transverse ridges as decoration.The handle, which is rectangular in section, tapers to a blunt end. It is similar to WMID-E02190. Length: 91.0mm, width: 11.0, thickness: 2.0mm, weight: 3.91g.
