Highly abraded fragment of a Roman copper alloy brooch, probably a Trumpet, the central part of a bow with a large rounded external swelling and the slight suggestion of the stump of the upper part of the catchplate. Extant length 28mm. c.75 - c.175 AD.

A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman rosette brooch of the first century AD. The fragment consists of the foot of the brooch, a flat plate that tapers towards the foot with vertical ribbing on the front and the remains of quite a large openwork catchplate on the reverse. The upper half of the brooch is broken and missing. Rosette brooches date from c. AD 25-60. See Hattatt (2008:308-309) for similar.
