Incomplete copper-alloy disc, probably a circular mount, in two fragments with another part missing. A low-relief design comprises two probably identical chasing Style I animals in profile looking right, but the details are hard to work out. Two heads survive with double-strand reversed-Z angled headframes and pellet eyes, one underlined to place it within a triangular field. In front, where there should be jaws, there appears instead a short double-strand leg ending in a toed foot. This is missing for one animal but its presence can be inferred by a gap in the right place. It is eith…

A fragment of a copper alloy Bronze Age axehead dating to the period c. 1600 - 800 BC. The fragment may be part of a palstave or a socketed axe. It is difficult to make a more precise classification due to the shape of the remaining fragment, however, it has been suggested that it is more likely to be a Late Bronze Age socketed axe due to the position of the break along the body and the shape of the blade which is more remeniscent of a socketed axe. The axehead is broadly trapezoidal in plan and triangular in profile. The fragment consists of a small portion of the blade. The blade ti…

Copper alloy possible palstave axe fragment. Cast trapezoid tapering blade from a solid cast axe blade with low flanges standing 1mm high along the edges of its blade. A narrow slightly crescentic cutting edge retains its sharpness. One side bears three - originally more - faint longitudinal lines of linear stamps, each stamp 1.7mm long, which are set 1.7mm apart from each other, each individually stamped impression being set diagonally relative to the sides of the axe. The spacing indicates the tool producing these marks was also used to govern their arrangement. The other side bears…
