Medieval cast copper alloy strap slider, c.1150-1400 AD. The slider consists of a single, trapezoidal loop with a pair of opposed internal triangular projections about a quarter of the way up the sides of the frame. The frame is rectangular in section. Uneven diagonally opposing wear within the frame suggests a long period of use. Egan and Pritchard Dress Accessories 1150-1450 (1991: 234) illustrate a number of examples, including ref. 1258, which is very similar and they assign to a late 12th to late 14th century date. They note that these strap loops are thought to be the earlies…

Treasure number 2014 T448: Disclaimed, returned to landowner Description: A late medieval silver-gilt pendant in the form of a crucifix. The cross is fragmentary, with breakages on the top right and left hand side. The cross is plain, bevelled on the side arms giving them a triangular cross-section, and bevelled on the sides of the main upright giving it a trapezoidal cross-section. . Comparable examples suggest that the figure of Christ is now missing from the front of the object. An absence of gilding on the upright below the side arms suggests that his body would have been moun…

A complete cast copper-alloy zoomorphic spout probably from an ewer of later Medieval or early Post Medieval date. The spout is tubular and terminates in a dog's head with open mouth; the tube spout protrudes from the open mouth. At the other end from the mouth it curves through ninety degrees downwards, and expands lengthways and widens slightly into a long, pointed neck where it would have joined the vessel (it is teardrop shaped in cross-section). The side is convex at the joint with the body suggesting it met the underside of an everted neck. The dog head has a moulded nose, promi…

A possibly debased Medieval silver penny of Stephen, dating from AD 1154-1158. Probably 'Awbridge' type. Illegible moneyer and mint. Illegible obverse. Cf. North 1994 Vol I, p. 203, no. 881. This coin is unusually light and the condition of the silver is extremely poor, obscuring important detail necessary for a full identification.

A near complete Medieval copper-alloy belt or strap mount in the form of a stylised scallop shell. The detail of the shell surface is depicted with radiating grooves. a single circular rivet with corroded backplate projects from the centre of the mount. A mount of similar form from a 15th century context is illustrated in Egan and Pritchard's, 'Dress Accessories' 1991, p.200-201, number 1083. The scallop shell symbol indicates a possible connection with Christianity and the act of pilgrimage. Dated c.1300-1500.
