A Roman iron knife blade and a cast copper alloy scabbard fitting, found together. The knife measures 125mm in length, 16.5mm in width and 6mm in thickness and it weighs 33.24g. The scabbard fitting, which came from the top of the sheath measures 35mm x 11.5mm x 8mm and the metal is c. 1.2mm thick. It weighs 10.07g. This type of knife is long-lived, but the scabbard mount probably dates from the earlier Roman period, that is the 1st or 2nd century AD. A cast copper alloy clapper bell dating from the Roman or Early Medieval period, that is c. AD43 - AD1066. It is conical in shape with a suspension loop at the top which is broken and slightly bent. It is of pointed, oval shape and with a circular hole. Below the base of the loop runs a raised rib, which at one point has a deep groove running parallel with the rib. There is also a circumferential raised rib a few millimetres from the rim. Incomplete and heavily worn copper alloy Roman bow brooch of possible Headstud type. The bow and wings of the brooch survive. The wings are cylindrical and the remains of the axis bar for the hinged pin are encased within. There is a slot for the, now missing, hinged pin in the centre of the reverse of the wings. The bow is semi-circular in section. On the arch of the bow is the probable worn headstud decoration. The pin, catchplate & foot are missing. Brooches of headstud type are typically dated AD c.75-200 and this brooch has been dated in line with these dates.

A copper alloy Roman trumpet headed brooch dating to AD 75-175. The pin of the brooch is missing and the loop at the top is damaged. At the top of the brooch is a loop which has broken, beneath the head of the brooch creates a trumpet shape which is decorated with two lines running round the edge. The trumpet narrows to form a neck before joining on to an inverted triangular 'fly' shape. The'wings' comprise two semicircles with a small inverted heart shape between the lower edges. Roman pottery fragment; rim sherd of a mortarium bowl with maker's stamp. Unglazed cream buff pottery with traces of a possible light brown wash - probably an example of the wares produced at the Mancetter and Hartshill potteries (Warwickshire/Leicestershire borders) from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. The sherd has a hooked flange and a beaded rim. There is a maker's mark on the rim which possibly reads IVNIVS set within a border of triangles. IVNIVS is a a name identified as working at the Mancetter/Hartshill kilns during the period AD 150-185.

An incomplete, early Roman copper-alloy brooch. The brooch appears to be a varient of a spring dolphin or bow and fantail brooch. The wings are semi-cylindrical and are decorated with a narrow rib at each end. In the centre at the back is an incomplete hook. A comma-shaped bow arches from the wings, and this flares onto a lozenge-shaped panel . The sides of the panel are curved, and terminate with a collared bulbous knop on either side. The rib of the bow continues down the centre of the plate. The foot is missing.

A Roman (1st to 4th centuries) decorative mount/stud: The copper alloy stud has a curcular sectioned bulbous head, with an integral knop at the apex. The base is slightly flattened and has a slight collar. Protruding from the centre of the base there is an integral, square sectioned stud which tapers to a blunt broken terminal. The surface of the stud has a well developed mid grey/green patina. The stud measures 32.32mm long, and the head is 14.69mm wide. It weighs 14g. Webster (1995) illustrates similar studs, but these are more bulbous than conical in profile, for example Nos. 17…
