A Roman iron knife blade and a cast copper alloy scabbard fitting, found together. The knife measures 125mm in length, 16.5mm in width and 6mm in thickness and it weighs 33.24g. The scabbard fitting, which came from the top of the sheath measures 35mm x 11.5mm x 8mm and the metal is c. 1.2mm thick. It weighs 10.07g. This type of knife is long-lived, but the scabbard mount probably dates from the earlier Roman period, that is the 1st or 2nd century AD.
