A fragment of a cast copper-alloy spherical animal bell (crotal) of post-medieval date. The fragment comprises half of the lower of two hemispherical domes, the hemisphere naturally divided in two by the sound slot, and vestiges of the upper hemisphere broken around a sound hole, together with a raised circumferential join. The upper hemisphere would have had two circular sound holes with a rectangular tab projecting from the top between them.

A Post-Medieval copper alloy 'crotal' (animal) bell cast (17th century). The upper half has two sound holes. As a result of old damage the bell has broken through one of those holes in a ragged break extending to each side to the two sound holes on the lower hemisphere. The lower sound holes are joined together by a slot and are perpendicular to those on the upper half. On both sides of the slot is a moulded cherub with a face flanked by wings that also travel below. Diagonal incisions pick out the feathers.
