An incomplete possible mount of Medieval date. The object is sub-triangular in shape, almost shield-shaped, with four projecting, circular knops on the outer edge. The object is decorated with curlinear grooves in a possible zoomorphic design that appears to resemble an insect. There appears to be traces of silvering near the point of the mount and within the grooves. The reverse is flat and undecorated but it has two circular projections running longitudinally for attachment. The object has a black-dark green patina with traces of silvering. The reverse is light grey in colour. It…

A fragment of a copper-alloy mount of late early-medieval to medieval date. It has been broken at both ends; at one end having tapered to a narrow width, at the other through a perforation for a rivet that no longer survives. Just after the hole is a moulded animal head with gaping jaws, a curved length emerging from its mouth. On the head there are two raised triangular 'ears', a lozenge shaped 'head', two raised ridges for 'eyes' and a short 'snout'. The curved length is sub-triangular just beyond the mouth but develops a D-shaped in cross-section as it tapers and curves. The mo…
