A Medieval gold quarter-noble of Edward III, dating from AD 1351. Fourth Coinage, Pre-Treaty period, Series B. Mint of London. Cf. North 1991 Vol II, p. 49, no. 1141.
This coin is unusual in that there is a spelling error on both legends. The obverse legend reads: EDWAR D G REX ANGL Z FRAE D hYB, rather than FRANC D hYB. The reverse legend reads: EXALTABITVR IN GLLORIA, rather than GLORIA.
Cf. PAS database record: HAMP-14B7B8.
