A copper-alloy double-sided cross probably quarter moidore coin weight of Post-Medieval date.
It is flat and square in form with worn surfaces. The front face depicts a voided cross with 5 pellets in each angle of the cross, all within an inner circle. The reverse carries a wreath enclosing a standing figure.
It measures 17.13mm in length, 16.12mm in width, 1.90mm in thickness, 2.56g (39.51 grains) in weight.
The moidor was issued in Portugal from 1677 to 1722 and in Brazil from 1702-1727 (P and BR Withers, 1995, p. 45). The standing figure on the reverse may indicate that it…
