A Post Medieval cast copper-alloy double loop vesica-shaped buckle and a fragment of pin, c. AD 1550-1650. The buckle frame is vesica shaped with cusped outside edges created from moulded pellets; there are slight protrusions at either end of the strap bar which have sub-oval holes punched into them. The outer edge of both loops is sub-lozenge-shaped in plan and is also punched with a lozenge-shaped hole; all of the holes have created bevelled inner edges from the front face. Complete copper alloy buckle frame. The frame is asymmetric with an oval loop and a smaller trapezoidal loop for attachment to the strap. The pin is missing and there is a groove around the centre of the strap bar between the two loops where this would have rotated. The frame is roughly flat on both faces with file marks still evident, the trapezoidal loop is sub-square in section whilst the oval loop is more D-shaped in section. The oval loop has a rounded triangular projection at the outer edge to serve as a pin rest. This pin rest is zoomorphic in form with two widely spaced rounde…

A complete copper alloy buckle of early-medieval date. The buckle is D-shaped in plan and circular in section with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. The outer edge of the frame is wide and undecorated and the pin no longer remains. Where the frame meets the strap bar it terminates in bulbous knops which are most probably crude representations of animal heads confronting across the bar. Zoomorphic terminals are a common feature of buckles of this period and are intended to represent some sort of quadruped's head, such as a lion or leopard. The metal has a dark blackish-brown patina…
