Complete copper alloy buckle frame. The frame is asymmetric with an oval loop and a smaller trapezoidal loop for attachment to the strap. The pin is missing and there is a groove around the centre of the strap bar between the two loops where this would have rotated. The frame is roughly flat on both faces with file marks still evident, the trapezoidal loop is sub-square in section whilst the oval loop is more D-shaped in section. A complete copper alloy buckle of early-medieval date. The buckle is D-shaped in plan and circular in section with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. The outer edge of the frame is wide and undecorated and the pin no longer remains. Where the frame meets the strap bar it terminates in bulbous knops which are most probably crude representations of animal heads confronting across the bar. Zoomorphic terminals are a common feature of buckles of this period and are intended to represent some sort of quadruped's head, such as a lion or leopard. The metal has a dark blackish-brown patina…
