A complete lead Russian bag or bale seal of late post-medieval date. The seal is sub-circular in plan with worn edges and a roughly rectangular cross section. It is comprised of a single disc of metal which is perforated by holes running across its diameter which would have been for wire or textile ligatures to secure a bag. Stamped text remains on both sides of the seal and read: [-]Z[-]//RR[-]//I[-]//1821 AnD [----]//NEE[-]//H10[-] The text on one side is likely to represent the initials and surname of the Quality Control Officer and possibly a code for the …

A complete lead seal matrix of medieval date. The seal is flat and a pointed oval or vesica shape. The front bears a central motif of a simple cross surrounded by a groove and the legend + S'IOH'S NEWT (Seal of John Newt) therefore representing a personal seal, probably of John Newton. The metal is a light whitish-brown colour and is worn. The seal is 31.6mm long, 23.8mm wide, 4.4mm thick and weighs 18.5g.
