A complete but worn copper alloy cup-shaped trade weight of the post-medieval period. There are no makers' or issuers' marks or stamps visible. There is the remains of a concreted white material within the weight. This is likely to be a single example from a nested set of weights of differing sizes which were used to weigh gold and silver in the form of coin, small objects or scrap metal or other precious materials. Similar weights are illustrated in Biggs p.16 and are dated to the 16th - 18th century.

Such trade tokens rarely travel far from their place of issue and provide an insight to the trade of the time. In 1672 regal copper coinage was introduced and the trade tokens were then banned ( Besly, E. 1997 Loose Change: A Guide to Common Coins and Medals Nat…

An incomplete copper alloy medieval (AD c.1150-c.1450) strap end, missing small fragments at one end. Overall, the object measures 24.6mm long, 13.8mm wide and 2.8mm thick. It weighs 2.30g.
The object is in the shape of an elongated hexagon, but this shape may have been caused by damage along the top edge. The strap end may have originally been square ended at the top. There appear to be the remains of a small projecting knop at the bottom end of the strap end and traces of a copper alloy rivet connecting the top ends. The surface of the object is flat and undecorated.
