A late Iron Age or Roman La Tene III type Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the period c.25- 100 AD. The pin is intact and extends at a 45 degree angle away from the integral spring which consists of four coils, one of which loops under the head. The bow extends back from the head and is sub-triangular in shape. At its widest point just below the head it measures 9.88mm, at its narrowest point where it joins the foot it measures 1.46mm. An incomplete Roman (AD 50-150) copper alloy Colchester Derivative brooch missing the pin. The brooch measures 43.5mm in length, 17.05mm wide, 13.85mm thick and weighs 6.55 grams. The wings are C-shaped in cross-section (with a hollowed area for the spring) and span 17.05mm. They are decorated with a single vertical groove.
