Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: North Lincolnshire

Copper alloy possible mount fragment. Copper alloy sheet with repousse motifs of circles or spirals, bordered at one edge by a pelleted or billeted line. This object could equally be part of a metal clad object such as a helmet. All the edges appear torn or cut, and one end of the fragment is folded back on itself. The form and curvilinear motifs recall the fragmentary plaque from Elmswell, East Yorkshire, which was perhaps a casket mount. Suggested date: Late Iron Age, 100 BC- AD43. Length (as found): 56.6mm, Width: 32.0mm, Thickness (sheet): 0.7mm, Weight: 7.07gms.

A complete copper alloy mount of probable Roman date. The mount is circular in plan with an openwork triskele design, though with four tendrils rather than the usual three. Four straight arms project, each joining slightly off centre to create a central near-square perforation, and continuing to the outer frame. Four knob-ended tendrils curve around the interior of each resulting sub-triangular cell and are joined to the outer frame by integral sprus. The knobs appear to be separately cast and fitted into circular recesses at the end of each tendril. Examination of the reverse shows t…

A cast copper probable mount of a vesica or eye- shaped dating to the Roman period, (AD43-410). The object is oval in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: West Berkshire

A white metal coated copper alloy heraldic mount of the post-medieval period. The mount was formed of several elements, of which the surviving two are recorded here. The mount is likely to have been a representation of a full coat of arms, with crest and possibly supporters and would have been large enough to mount on a plaque or possibly an architectural element, although a plaque seems more likely. The surviving elements comprise the crest, a probable marquess crown with cap of maintainance that measures 49.9mm wide x 37.5mm high and weighs 20.2grams. The second element is the head …
