Object type: TAP
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete post-medieval copper alloy tap, with the key and most of the circular inlet pipe missing. The key housing is octagonal externally and circular internally. Between the key housing and the sub-square sectioned mouth there is a spur or projection on the upper face. This is a common 16th- and perhaps earlier 17th-century form (Baart et al. 1977, nos. 657-60; Allan 1984, 345, fig. 193, no. 180; Goodall, A. in Saunders 2012, 115, cat. no. 245; HAMP-751C23). Egan (1998, 242-4) points to Continental examples of as early as c.1460. Extant length 88m. Width 22mm.
