A Roman Polden Hill type brooch (AD c. 80-120): The copper alloy brooch is incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical, but both are fragmentary. The edges of the wings, behind the bow head, is heavily abraded. The axis bar, spring and pin are all missing. The bowhead is hump-like in profile and is undecorated. The bow is oval in section, and gradually tapers to a break which is not recent. The surface of the brooch has an incomplete light green patina. It measures 25.6mm long, 11.85mm wide across the wings and weighs 5g.
The brooch is probably a Polden Hill type. Bayley and Butcher…
