Polyhedral silver pinhead or terminal, with short flaring conical socket. The head is in the shape of a cuboid with the corners cut off, 11mm x 11mm, and 19mm in total length. All of the five lozengiform and eight triangular faces thus formed are worn, but two of the lozengiform faces bear the outline of a quatrefoil. The area surrounding is recessed. What would be the lowest face is filled with a circular collar, from which a flaring, hollow socket springs. This ends in a thickened rim, just above which is acircular attachment hole c. 1mm in diameter.

Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy pin fragment. Cast probably polyhedral pin head, possibly with a collar, and with the stub of a shank of diameter (now) 1.5mm. A drilled pit of diameter 2mm appears on four sides of the head and its top is flattened, cf Flixborough Type 220. Very severely abraded so, for example, it is now uncertain whether the pin head was angular in profile or whether the pits are relicts of ring and dot decoration. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 800-850.
