Cast copper alloy strap end or possibly a buckle plate dating from the medieval period, that is c. AD1200-1500. The artefact remains intact with front and back undamaged. While the reverse is plain, the obverse is decorated with incised decoration which may have held a niello inlay. The imagery is difficult to identify from the image, but the style of decoration suggests something floral rather than figurative or geometric. Medieval sheet copper alloy shield-shaped strap end with angled inside edge, two notches in each side, two rivets and an outside edge which has been curled over towards the front face. This latter feature would have performed the same function (probably in engagement with a folding strap clasp) as the normal bar-mount. One rivet is near the inside edge, the other in the centre. 17.5 x 11mm. 14th - mid 15th century. (field RG1)

A Medieval (1250-1450) copper alloy composite strap-end, with a front and back plate and a forked spacer between. It measures 27.35x12.53x3.41mm and weighs 3.29g. The plate has gently expanding sides to the open end (which has a slightly in-curved edge) and a projecting triangular knop at the closed end. An incomplete and worn copper-alloy composite strap end of Medieval date. Only the attachment end survives, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn. The front and back plates are flat and rectangular in shape. They are either side of a sheet spacer, occupying their whole width. The top of the front plate is decorated with two U-shaped notches. Medieval? copper alloy strap end, 37mm long, 8mm wide and 4mm thickk with a weight of 4.10grams. The strap end is rectangular in form and sub rectangular in section. It is elongated and terminates with a three dimensional depition of a clenched fist. It has a single rivet placed just below its upper straight edge.
