Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Calderdale
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint scraper of possibly Bronze Age date, about 2200 BC - 1000 BC. It is formed on a tertiary flake of semi-translucent mottled gery and tan coloured flint and is not patinated. It is worked oddly, and subsequent removals have made it difficult identify the orientation. It is sub-triangular in plan and irregular in section. The right side appears to have been used as a scraper, but has suffered edge damage obscuring most of the retouch. The long removals above the scraping edge have unusually been worked from the scraping edge towards the middle of the flake. Small removals at the …

Due to the consistency in form of these objects and lack of diagnostic features (decorative patterns etc.), a broad date range must be applied. The lead has a creamy white patina.
