A Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends type) of Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c, Plate 46. of AD c. 80-120): The copper alloy brooch is incomplete. Fragment of Middle or Late Saxon copper alloy cross-shaped brooch. Trefoil terminal of one arm with the curved sides followed by a groove with an additional short groove on the central foil. Surviving length 14mm. Width 17mm. 2mm thick. Brooches of this general type, like the related "cogwheel" brooches, are thought to belong to the 9th century. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Polden Hill brooch of Roman date. The object has a D-shaped bow which is D-shaped in section. The front of it is decorated with a central longitudinal rib with a groove each side. The wings are semi-circular with end caps and are undecorated . The remains of the catchplate are triangular in shape. The rest of the brooch is missing due to old breaks. Similar examples can be found in Hattatt, (2000), p300 which date to the 1st century AD.

An incomplete copper alloy brooch of uncertain type, of Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 200). Less than 25% of the brooch is present, consisting only of the catch plate. The bow, wings, head, spring and pin are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The brooch fragment is sub triangular in plan, with an folded edge along one side. The opposite side has a rounded edge. File marks are present. It measures 21.8 mm in length, 5.5 mm wide and 10.1 mm thick. It weighs 3.1 g.
