Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Medieval copper alloy marginally trapezoidal buckle frame with, on the front of both sides, a lug pierced for a missing separate bar, which almost certainly would have been integral with a pin, cf. Egan and Pritchard 1991, no. 445; Egan, G. in Griffiths et al. 2007, nos. 739-43; Whitehead 2003, nos. 550-1). There are six longitudinal filed grooves on the outside edge. 24 x 24.7 - 26.8mm (wider at the outside edge). The object, which is proportionately wider than the above examples, is lopsided as a result of casting not distortion: one side is 1.5mm shorter than the other. c.1350 - c.1450.
