A Roman copper-alloy Colchester-derivative (double lug) brooch, dating from the mid to late 1st century AD.
The wings consist of a horizontally aligned half-cylinder which is slightly wider on one side than on the other (due to either damage or miscasting), closed at either end and has a pair of perforated lugs at the centre of the underside. At the back, these lugs taper into a ridge which extends the length of the slightly distorted bow, creating a trapezoidal section. The straight sides of the bow gradually converge towards the foot. The catchplate has an hourglass-shaped perfor…

A Late Medieval copper-alloy bar mount.
The central element of the mount is subcircular, its convex upper surface decorated by a crudely incised pattern of cross-hatched grooves, its underside hollow. Part of a copper-alloy handle from a Roman folding knife.
The surviving piece represents the front end of the handle and takes the form of a heavily stylised hare, depicted as if running forwards. Part of the base survives beneath the front feet of the animal, its underside having a longitudinal groove, into which the blade would have slotted. Both the vertical forelegs and the bent hindquarters are executed as single blocks (i.e. with no delineation of individual limbs). The body is slender, with a ridged back and flat underside; the head is of elongated appearance and tapers to a…

Part of a Late Roman copper-alloy strip bracelet.
The piece is of flat section and is roughly parallel-sided, having a slight flaring at one end. The bracelet does not retain its original curvature but, rather, appears to have been deliberately flattened. The break at the wider end is irregular and may be the result of accidental damage; the narrower end, however, has a more regular, vertical face which represents either an original terminal or, more likely, a deliberate truncation with a flat-bladed implement. A series of incised panels decorates the upper surface. The panel at th…
