Incomplete possible early medieval pin. The shaft is circular in section and broken off towards the tip end. It is bent sharply back on itself slightly more than halfway along the surviving length. Two clear transverse lines have been incised on the shaft below the pinhead, and nicks below these may be remains of attempts at further lines. The pinhead is integral, cast in one with the shaft. It is flat and incomplete, with pieces broken off from the top and at least one side, leaving a transverse diagonal break along the top edge. The shoulders of the pinhead, where it joins the sh…

Report on potential Treasure for HM Coroner 2014 T297 Elmley Lovett, Worcs. Roman gold finger-ring of 'keeled' type. Narrow hoop of square-section, rather crudely shaped, that expands to flat triangular shoulders decorated with a pair of diverging grooves in the centre with a volute on each side. Three pieces of knapped chert debitage. One mid brown, two dark brown/black, all tertiary pieces, one complete and two the distal ends of longer blades. All appear to come from a blade core where regular long, parallel blades have been removed from the same direction. A1 is missing part of the distal end to a snap. A2 ends in a hinge fracture and has a possible area of short, semi-abrupt, scalar retouch along the middle part of the right edge on the ventral face. A3 is complete. These pieces suggest a fine blade industry in which pieces of blade are being utilised and possibly reto…

Incomplete Roman copper-alloy enamelled disc brooch of 2nd century date. The brooch is circular with a concave face and a raised open-topped conical centre which probably held a stone. It is notable that the base of the cupped opening within the central cone is pierced, presumably for fixing the missing central stone or other component in place. The overall design contrasts to the broadly similar tutulus style disc brooches in that they have a flanged conical centre. Surrounding the central cone the face of the brooch is decorated with an inlaid red enamel design. The red enamel fills…

Late Roman nummus, probably of the House of Constantine, possibly dating to c. AD 320-5 (Reece Period 16). The obverse has a left facing bust and the reverse is very unclear. However, the mintmark appears to be [PL]ON for London, or even [.C]ON for Arles. The left facing bust is common for BEATA TRANQVILLITAS altar types, although it is hard to see this on the reverse.  This identification must remain tentative.
