A worn and incomplete iron dove type horseshoe of the Medieval period, circa late 13th century.
The shoe has three sub-circular nail holes which have rectangular recesses, probably to accept square-headed nails. The heel is inclined and narrows with a turned down calkin. Probably a saddle shoe. Reference Ivan. G. Sparkes, OLD HORSESHOES, page 15. Length of shoe: 104.51 mm. Width: 25.21 mm. Thickness: 5.43 mm. Weight: 84 grams.

A worn and incomplete dove type or late guildhall horseshoe from the Medieval period, circa 1250-1350
. Only the left branch and part of the toe survive. Two nail holes are evident on the branch, with a third at the toe section, which appears to have been added to. This changes the angle of the shoe and is probably why the third nail is positioned here, which suggests this may be a surgical shoe. Only the left branch survives, with three nail holes, one of which has a clearly defined rectangular depression. The heel tapers and has no calkin. Probably a saddle shoe. Reference: Ivan. G. Sparkes, OLD HORSESHOES. page 15. Length of shoe fragment: 110.27 mm. Width: 24.40 mm. Thickness: 5.69 mm. Weight: 59 grams.
