Report on potential Treasure for HM Coroner 2014 T297 Elmley Lovett, Worcs. Roman gold finger-ring of 'keeled' type. Narrow hoop of square-section, rather crudely shaped, that expands to flat triangular shoulders decorated with a pair of diverging grooves in the centre with a volute on each side. The flat ovoid bezel has a gold applique soldered to it, which enclosed a rubbed over bluish-grey intaglio, probably nicolo. Description: Medieval to post-medieval gold finger ring. The oval-sectioned band expands smoothly from the rear to shoulders which flair before narrowing sharply to join the bezel. The shoulders are engraved to leave a foliate design in low relief, perhaps originally reserved on an inlayed field, although no inlay survives. A complete gold finger ring of 16th-17th century date. The ring is composed of a strip of D-sectioned gold, bent and seal with a butt joint. The outer surface of the ring has a raised repeating crossed hatch design which creates repeating lines of two diamond cells and two separate half or triangular cells in each row. This would have originally held enamel, which is now missing. The inner surface is smooth and flat with an incised inscription in Roman lettering. There is no visible makers mark.
