A worn and incomplete dove type or late guildhall horseshoe from the Medieval period, circa 1250-1350 . Only the left branch and part of the toe survive. Two nail holes are evident on the branch, with a third at the toe section, which appears to have been added to. This changes the angle of the shoe and is probably why the third nail is positioned here, which suggests this may be a surgical shoe. The nail is in situ and is of the square headed type and not countersunk. The heel is narrowed with a turned down calkin. Reference: Ivan.G.Sparkes, OLD HORSESHOES. page 13 and 15. Length of…

Cast lead conical free-standing steelyard weight or poise with flat base and cylindrical perforation running vertically through the weight. The perforation would have probably held an iron shank that would have been used for suspension and attached the weight to a steelyard. The conical form is not symmetrical in profile, with the apex off centre to one side. The aperture just below the apex of the cone is 4 mm in diameter and the aperture at the base, which is again off-centre, is wider and 6 mm in diameter.
