Incomplete medieval to post-medieval tin-coated copper alloy hooked tag, most of an embedded iron hook missing. The circular plate is engraved with a circle containing the sacred monogram IHS (Iesus Hominum Salvator / Jesus saviour of mankind). Cf. an example in lead/tin alloy from Bedfordshire (ibid., no. 515). Extant length 20mm. Width 14.7mm. A central circular cell is empty but a small fragment of enamel, now green, remains in an outer ring. A small part of the outer edge is missing. Diameter 14.3mm. Length 6mm. Gap between reverse and disc head 4.5mm. Mid 1st - 4th century.

Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative Rearhook brooch, spring, pin and ctachplate flap missing. There is a single reel moulding on both wings and a transverse groove in front of the rearhook. The broad D-sectioned bow is decorated with a pair of median groove. The catchplate is not perforated. Wingspan 22.5mm. Bow width at top 12mm. Length 41mm. c.43 - c.65 AD.

Description: Incomplete Early-Medieval Frankish gilded silver radiate-headed brooch. Worn semi-circular head-plate with five integrally cast collared knobs, the plate with a crescent-shaped panel of counter-relief decoration comprising four large spirals within a beaded border. The spirals are arranged so that the two on the left are both clockwise and form a reversed S; they are then linked by a ridge to the spiral on the far right, which turns anti-clockwise. The near-right spiral is detached and turns anti-clockwise.
