Copper alloy Nuremburg jetton of the 'French shield' type, anonymous stock, dating from c.AD 1500-1525. Obverse: (Ficitious legend) BEOLE:AVE:VBOLEN:VBOLE, Shield of France charged with three lis around central pellet, surmounted by a crown that interrupts the legend, with pellets and fleurets either side of the shield and within an inner circle. Reverse: (Fictitious legend) BEOLENEOBVNEOBVNEOBVNEO, An Imperial orb surmounted by a cross pattee within a double stranded trefoil, all within an inner circle. Mitchiner, 1988: nos.1085-6.
