A post medieval cast lead-alloy powder charger cap of 17th century date. The cap is a sub-circular cup shape, with a flat base and vertical sides, and a lip around the rim. There is a single integral suspension loop at the base, which would have been used to secure the cap to both a gunpowder flask and a bandolier, via a looped cord (Courtenay, 1988, FRG Datasheet 11). The cap is mis-shapen and damaged, with old cracks and splits. The surface is plain and undecorated, with areas of light brown patina. An annular hoop, most likely from an annular brooch of either Early Medieval or Medieval date (750-1500). The brooch is formed from a circular sheet from which an irregular circular central hole has been removed; leaving a wide frame. Medieval copper alloy tongue-shaped two-piece strap end with two rivets, trefoil knop and rocker-arm engraved decoration on the front plate comprising a full-length zig-zag between lines along both sides. Length 45mm. Width at attachment edge 13.5mm, before the knop 10mm. 14th century.
