Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Derbyshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete but heavily worn and corroded Medieval copper-alloy harness pendant. The pendant is of quatrefoil form and has a suspension loop set at 90 degrees projecting from the upper edge which is pierced for attachment. The front of the pendant has a design which appears to be set within a raised quatrefoil frame but the details of this are now lost although a trace of gilding and also a segment of probably red (gules) enamel survive. The reverse of the pendant was probably gilded. Horse harness pendants of this type are dated c. 1200-1400.
