Lead and iron wheel. Cast rouletting wheel with a central axle hole of diameter c.2mm, comprising a cylindrical lead drum studded with six offset pairs of iron pins set so as to produce a regular series of depressions when rolled across a surface. The drum may have a larger diameter on one side than the other - a point only discerned when preparing the image of the object, which if correct would have caused it to describe a circle when in use. Cast lead-alloy weight, probably a spindle whorl dating from the medieval period, that is c. AD1200-1500. The weight is circular, with a large perforation in the centre that held the spindle. The surface is very worn. Unlike many other spindle whorls of the same date range, this example has a very distinct moulded decoration: There are five moulded flat knops on the outside of the whorl with incised (probably also moulded) lines between each two knops. The pouring of lead is visible where it has solidified on one side of the object. The fabric, if that is what it is - spots of similar material also appear away from the edges of the plug - might suggest a Roman date. Suggested date: possibly Roman, 43-410. Copper alloy vessel fragment. Cast leg from a pipkin, aquamanile or small cauldron. The leg is of plano-convex section, flat behind and with a slight though abraded ridge on its front face. The leg terminates in a probably tripartite sub-triangular foot, possibly modelled on an animal paw. This feature would be apt to an item of tableware, but the object is heavily sooted, suggesting its last use was on the hearth. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350. Length: 34.9mm, Height (in use): 29mm, Width: 25.5mm, Thickness: 15.1mm, Weight: 43.21gms.

White metal, of light weight, probably aluminium. Fragment from a hollow strut or component of external diameter c.100mm, very slightly flared at the top. The metal is coated overall - including all fracture surfaces - in a thick buff corrosion deposit. This is probably from an aircraft, and the extent of corrosion may arise from the intense heat of a catastrophic explosion and fire. The finder has previously reported similarly distressed debris from the documented site of a downed British bomber. Flat circular plate with opposed projecting elements; one slightly expanded with a rounded end and the other possibly diminishing in its width, and lost from the point of a bend. One side bears the repeated legend: PATENT, a cushion crown motif and the letters GR, which may hint at the official issue of this object. The numerous articles of ammunition reported hereabouts might suggest this to be from a weapon. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1715-1830. Lead musket ball. Cast ball with mould line and an untrimmed casting sprue. The mass, which is over one averdepois ounce, indicates this could serve in a smooth bore musket of military specification. The sprue would not prevent the ball being used so long as it was positioned in line with the gun barrel. It could be deliberately left on a shot intended to be included is a paper cartridge along with its propellant charge of gunpowder.
