White metal, of light weight, probably aluminium. Fragment from a hollow strut or component of external diameter c.100mm, very slightly flared at the top. The metal is coated overall - including all fracture surfaces - in a thick buff corrosion deposit. This is probably from an aircraft, and the extent of corrosion may arise from the intense heat of a catastrophic explosion and fire. The finder has previously reported similarly distressed debris from the documented site of a downed British bomber.
