Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy metalworking debris. Fragment of copper alloy with a bubbled surface on one side and possibly with flow lines on the other. One 'end' is dished, and this, together with a possibly ridged section of the object, might suggest this to be the remains of a cauldron leg detached and melted down during an episode of recycling. This identification would suggest a Medieval date for this activity. Suggested date: possibly Medieval, 1200-1500. Height: 43mm, Width: 35mm, Thickness: 25mm, Weight: 83.68gms

A Medieval copper alloy horse harness pendant. The item is shield shaped in plan. One face has traces of red enamel remaining but it is not possible to ascertain what the decoration is. The reverse face is plain and there are no traces of enamel. The top narrow to a short point- this presumably was the attachment loop for suspension but it has now partially broken away and worn. This harness pendant is particularly small in comparisson to other pendants, and it is possible that this was used for on a smaller animal rather than a horse (Brian Read, pers comm).

Description: A gold finger ring in the form of a D-sectioned band. The outer surface of this band bears a moulded herringbone pattern, with traces of niello or dark enamel remaining in some of the cells, and a single plain area, which may represent evidence of an enlargement. The inscription, 'SEDVN DA ME', extends around the inner surface of the band.
