An incomplete copper-alloy double-loop buckle dating from the Medieval to post-Medieval periods, c.1350-1650. The buckle is missing it's second loop which has broken away in antiquity, just past the axis bar. The intact side is D-shaped in plan and has a trapezoidal cross section.The copper-alloy pin is from flat-sectioned wire, is looped around the axis bar and terminates in a point.Reference: Ross Whitehead, BUCKLES. 1250-1800. Pages 53-54. Length: 14.42 mm. Width: 15.77 mm. Thickness: 2.05 mm. Weight:1.572 grams.

Medieval to Post Medieval (15th to 16th centuries) buckle: The copper alloy buckle frame, in plan, is a sub-'D' shape with a concave apex to the loop. This is intentional, rather than due to damage. The width and depth of the frame remains consistent and the strap bar is only slightly narrowed. The strap bar and frame is sub-rectangular in section. The frame, opposite the strap bar, is decorated with obliquely angled grooves. There is a fragment ofthe buckle plate wrap around the strap bar. The pin is missing. An incomplete Medieval to post-Medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame (c. 1350-c. 1650). The pin is missing. The frame is convex at the front and flat at the rear. Each loop is oval in plan and similar in size. The narrowed bar is sub-triangular in cross-section. This frame has a matt green patina with iron staining on both faces. Length: 28.0mm; width: 22.1mm; thickness: 2.8mm. Weight: 2.54g. Similar buckles have been published and dated c. 1350-1650 AD (Whitehead 1996: 53). Whitehead, R. 1996. Buckles 1250-1800.
